Tata Punch EV Facelift: Tata Motors has launched a new facelift model of its most affordable electric SUV, the Punch EV. The company claims that this electric car will offer a driving range of up to 468 km on a single charge and that its battery will be charged up to 80% in just 26 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Tata Punch EV Facelift Launch Price

Tata Motors, a leader in the electric vehicle segment, today launched a new facelift model of its popular electric SUV, the Tata Punch EV. This affordable electric SUV, equipped with attractive looks and a powerful battery pack, has a starting price of ₹9.69 lakh (ex-showroom). The biggest change in the new Tata Punch facelift is its battery pack. The company has officially opened bookings for the car today, and deliveries will begin soon.

Priced at ₹6.49 lakh under BaaS Scheme

The company has also launched a BaaS model, under which the electric car has a starting price of ₹6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Under this scheme, customers will have to pay an EMI of ₹2.6 per km for battery rental. In the case of electric cars, a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription plan is a model where the battery is not included in the car’s price. Instead, it’s rented separately or charged based on usage. This subscription model allows customers to pay a lower initial price when purchasing an EV because the significant battery cost is eliminated.

What’s the new Punch EV like?

The Punch EV Facelift features a new front bumper, which now features a closed grille and a cleaner design. The black trim that previously connected the headlamps has been removed. However, the Y-shaped LED daytime running lights and the repositioned charging flap remain unchanged. This gives the car a more modern front end.

Additionally, new 16-inch, aero-optimized alloy wheels have been added, inspired by Tata’s larger electric cars. Three new exterior color options have been added, along with a contrasting black roof. The rear now features connected LED taillamps, similar to those on the petrol Punch. The Punch EV has a ground clearance of 195 mm and a water wading capability of 450 mm.

Old cabin layout, but new feel

The overall dashboard layout of the Punch EV Facelift’s interior remains the same. It features a dual-tone color theme and new trim finishes. Top variants get a larger 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display, giving the car a premium feel.

In terms of features, the car offers features like wireless charging, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, connected car technology, and a 360-degree camera, depending on the variant. In terms of safety, six airbags are standard. Additionally, high beam assist, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, tire pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat mounts are also available.

Battery Pack and Driving Range

Shailesh Chandra, MD and Chief Executive Officer of Tata Motors, said during the launch event that the new Tata Punch has been introduced in a completely new avatar. The car comes in two options: medium-range (30kWh) and long-range (40kWh) battery packs. It features the largest 40kWh battery pack in the segment. This battery is capable of delivering a driving range of up to 468 kilometers (ARAI tested) on a single charge, which translates to a real-world driving range of at least 335 to 355 kilometers. It has been designed keeping in mind the average Indian car buyer, so that people can purchase an electric car with better range at a lower price.

Charging Options

The company has also made significant claims regarding the charging capabilities of the Tata Punch Electric. Shailesh Chandra says, “Its battery charges in just 15 minutes, giving you a driving range of up to 135 kilometers. Furthermore, with the help of a fast DC charger, the battery can be charged from 0 to 80% in just 26 minutes.” This means you can charge this car in short breaks during long journeys, which will prove to be very useful.

Tata Punch EV variants and price

This car will support three chargers.

  • DC Fast Charger: CCS2
  • Wallbox Charger: 7.2kW
  • Home Charger: 3.3kW

All these chargers will have an illuminated charging status indicator, providing users with complete charging information.

Lifetime Warranty

Tata Motors is offering a lifetime warranty on the Punch Electric’s battery. This means you can drive this electric car for a long time without any stress. If the battery develops any problems, the company will repair or replace it free of charge. Shailesh Chandra says, “The Tata Punch EV is the first electric car in its segment to offer a lifetime warranty on its battery.”

Anand Kulkarni, Chief Product Officer, Tata Motors, says, “The Tata Punch Electric uses an LFP battery pack made from prismatic cells. This battery is designed to be resistant to thermal induction, impact, shock, electric short circuit, etc.”

The Punch EV is unique in several ways. The base variant’s price has been reduced by ₹30,000 compared to the outgoing model, making it more affordable. In the Indian market, it competes directly with the Citroen eC3. In Tata’s electric range, it is positioned above the Tiago EV and below the Nexon EV.
